  37 The file
  38 .Pa /etc/phones
  39 contains the system-wide
  40 private phone numbers for the

  43 This file is normally unreadable, and so may contain
  44 privileged information.
  45 The format of the file is a series of lines
  46 of the form: <system-name>[\ \et]*<phone-number>.
  47 The system name is
  48 one of those defined in the
  49 .Xr remote 5
  50 file and the phone number is constructed from any sequence of
  51 characters terminated only by ``,'' or the end of the line.
  52 The ``='' and ``*'' characters are
  53 indicators to the auto call units to pause and wait for a second dial
  54 tone (when going through an exchange).
  55 The ``='' is required by the
  56 .Tn DF02-AC
  57 and the ``*'' is required by the
  58 .Tn BIZCOMP
