  49 The

  51 node type performs encapsulation and de-encapsulation of packets
  52 using the Cisco HDLC protocol.
  53 This is a fairly simple
  54 protocol for the transmission of packets across
  55 high speed synchronous lines.
  56 Each packet is prepended with
  57 an Ethertype, indicating the protocol.

  81 In order to function properly for IP traffic, the node must be informed
  82 of the local IP address and netmask setting.
  83 This is because the protocol

  86 packet which we must be prepared to answer.
  87 There are two ways to accomplish this, manually and automatically.

  89 Whenever such an inquire packet is received, the node sends a

  91 control message to the peer node connected to the

  94 If the peer responds, then that response is used.
