  38 utility removes unneeded whitespace from text passed to standard input
  39 and prints the result to standard output.

  41 It removes leading and trailing empty lines from the input, as well as
  42 trailing whitespace characters from ever line of text.
  43 Multiple successive empty lines are merged together.
  44 If the whitespace at the beginning of a sentence is exactly a multiple
  45 of eight spaces, the whitespace is replaced by tabs.
  46 Also, spaces preceding tabs will be merged into the tab character.
