  41 .Sh DESCRIPTION
  42 Section one of the manual contains most of the commands
  43 which comprise the
  44 .Bx
  45 user environment.
  46 Some of the commands included in section one are
  47 text editors, command shell interpreters,
  48 searching and sorting tools,
  49 file manipulation commands,
  50 system status commands,
  51 remote file copy commands, mail commands,
  52 compilers and compiler tools,
  53 formatted output tools,
  54 and line printer commands.

  56 All commands set a status value upon exit which may be tested
  57 to see if the command completed normally.
  58 Traditionally, the value 0 signifies successful
  59 completion of the command, while a value >0 indicates an error.
  60 Some commands attempt to describe the nature of the failure by using
  61 exit codes as defined in
  62 .Xr sysexits 3 ,
  63 while others simply set the status to an arbitrary value >0 (typically 1).
